Hi Don,

I would love to talk to you about setting up watering system, I don't have one at this time and I believe as you say it would be a huge time saver. I am just not exactly sure how to get water to our shed at this time. Look forward to further posts.

Hi Sarah,

You have a nice clean, neat setup.  I am always interested how others raise their rabbits. What works well and what doesn't. I am not sure if you use automatic watering or not.

I set this up this spring for my rabbits and it has been a huge labor and time saver not to mention that the rabbits gain rapidly because they have access to cool clean water 24/7.

The challange with this is now before me as the winter approaches. I installed heat wires in the pipe

but the problem with that is this time of year the temperature control comes on at 38°F but off at 48° F

This is the ambiant temperature. (therein lies the problem) Not controlling actual water temperature.

The water gets too warm. I have another idea using a tank heater with a small circulating pump. Next week I plan on installing this system. If interested I could post the good and or the bad with that.

All for now ,The post is getting long.  Good Luck with your nice looking stock.

Don

Doug,

Thanks so much for coming to see the set-up, I look forward to photos of the "Poop Away" system, if it is ok I will post them here on the website, I think it would be very informative for folks. I am also very interested in how you will build your watering system, using the airator to move the water, to keep it from freezing, along with the heater is a great idea.  Great to meet you, I look forward to remaining in touch. Thanks for a very informative visit.  I will start designing the "Poop-Away"  system tomorrow and send some pictures as it develops.  As soon as the water valves arrive from Bass, I will build the watering system.  It is great to find someone as excited about this process as I.

Thanks again for the tour

Hello Sarah, I really like your rabbitry. I am a rabbit raiser my self and always looking for information. I have Zelands and Califorians but would love to get a red zeland to mix them up. Any ideas or info where I can get one? Good luck at the bunny hopp  Jeff

New Rabbitry Set-up!!!

Silver Ridge Rabbitry is pleased to announce that we have changed our set-up. Previously we were raising out of our garage. That was not an ideal situation, now we are cooking, we have stacking cages from our manufacturer, in a milk house adapted from my father's cow barn, generations of farmers, now in my family. My new set-up is stacking cages with trays. It is so organized and neat, and I hope to keep it that way. I can not say enough about setting it (the rabbitry) up once and doing it right the first time. I just sold off my used cages, that didn't fit into the rabbitry, now I have new and wonderful challenges with my rabbitry. I can not stress how much you want to think about your set-up (cages feeders watering systems, etc.) As much as you want to find the best stock to begin with. If you begin with great stock and a great set-up you can deal with minimal or plenty of space, a barn with poop falling, or stacking trays in basement or a garage or shed. Rabbits are a commitment, so start with the best stock and supplies. Please feel free to contact us if you are interested in seeing our set-up.
