Happy New Year!

Posted by Silver Ridge Rabbitry on January 1, 2009 at 5:07 PM

Happy New year, 2009 promises to be a great year for growing your own food. I am excited for spring and am looking forward to starting the garden soon.

I am interested in feedback,  Do most people build their own nestboxes or do they buy them, what is better? If a kit falls out in the winter outside they are done for, what is the best design to prevent this?

New NZW cross stock available, visit the sale page to see photos.

Well it is almost a year since I posted the nestbox post, I will comment that I have made my nestboxes out of plywood and wood bottom and wire bottom, some people rave about the wire bottom, but I have found when I put cardboard in so the hay doesen't fall through, they shred it, and then the hay falls through and then you have a bare nestbox. I have found the entirely wood ones work and I have just been turned on to the metal ones, available here at Silver Ridge Rabbitry.

New Rabbitry Set-up!!!

Silver Ridge Rabbitry is pleased to anounce that we have changed our set-up, before we were raising out of our garage, not an ideal situation, now we are cooking, we have stacking cages from our manufacturer, in a milk house adapted from my father's cow barn, generations of farmers, now in my family. My new set-up is stacking cages with trays. It is so organized and neat, and I hope to keep it that way, I can not say enough about setting it (the rabbitry) up once and doing it right the first time, I just sold off my used cages, that didn't fit into the set-up, now I have new and wonderful chalenges with my set-up. I can not stress how much you want to think about your set-up (cages feeders watering systems, etc.) As much as you want to find the best stock to begin with. If you begin with great stock and the set-up you can deal with plenty of space, a barn with poop falling, or stacking trays in basement or a garage or shed. Rabbits are a commitment, so start with the best stock and supplies. Please feel free to contact us if you are interested in seeing our set-up. 802-371-9387
